Lets get out there and do our best and have FUN!

All Athletes, Coaches and Partners should be there by 12:30pm for registration. Games start promptly at one. All players must have on black shorts, white t-shirt and sneakers. Coaches will give out the jerseys before the first games. No transportation is provided by Special Olympics to this venue. Lunch will not be served as this is a half day tournament. Bring snacks and/or money for the concession stand that should be open during the afternoon.

Dashing & Dancing, 5K and Plunge Party Updates    
 
What better way to warm up for your icy dip in the Atlantic than with a brisk 5k race?! Space in the Plunge 5k is filling quickly, so lace up your sneakers and register today! Last year the race sold out and we’re currently at 50% capacity. For more info about the 5k, click here. Note, 5K shirts are guaranteed for the first 1,000 runners. 
 
With all this racing and plunging, we think you deserve a celebration! So we’re throwing you TWO parties this year…one on Friday night to help get you pumped up for Plunge day, and one on Saturday night, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Plunge. The Pre-Plunge Party (Friday from 6-10 pm) will feature Butter, one of our favorite local bands, and the 20th Anniversary Beach Bash (Saturday from 5-9 pm) will showcase the talents of The Deloreans, so come dressed in your best 80s attire! They’re Double-Dipping!

While you’re prepping for the big event, our friends at WTKR NewsChannel 3, 106.9 the FOX and FM99 are preparing for the first of TWO icy dips! That’s right, they’re double-dipping! Be sure to tune in to WTKR next Wednesday, Feb. 3 during the morning show and watch as your media favorites “Pre-Plunge” in support of Special Olympics. In addition, check out the noon and evening news today (Jan. 25) on WTKR as we answer calls and accept Plunge donations. The person with the highest pledge during the two Plunge phone banks will win a custom Coppertone surfboard, valued at $750!

And, this Friday, Jan. 27 at the Greenbrier Hooters, join us and your favorites from 106.9 the FOX and FM99 for a special Plunge recruitment night. Bring your friends and sign them up to SEIZE THE FREEZE!

Over the past few months many people have submitted a volunteer form or expressed an interest in volunteering with Special Olympics Virginia. On Sunday January 15, 2012 we will host an public forum to talk about Special Olympics Virginia Area 6 (including Chesterfield, Goochland, Powhatan, New Kent and Amelia counties) and how you or someone you know can get involved “as an athlete, a volunteer, or a sponsor/supporter”.

We invite everyone to attend, and if you like, bring a friend or family member. Volunteering together is more fun!

Here are some of the areas we will cover.
•What is “Special Olympics”?
•Who are “Special Olympics Athletes”?
•Who is eligible to be a “Special Olympics Athlete”?
•How is this program free to it’s Athletes and Volunteers?
•Where does the money to run the program come from?
•How can the program help you or someone you know?
•When and how can you or someone you know get involved as athlete, a volunteer or supporter?
•Why should you or someone you know get involved?
•How can the program change the lives of all those involved?

On Monday, December 19 from 4:00pm to 9:00pm Special Olympics Area 6 will be having a ‘fun’draising night at Johnny Rockets in the Hancock Village Shopping Center. The address is 7300 Hancock Village Drive, Chesterfield Virginia 23832

SOVA Area 6 will have a table set up outside with flyers. Customers turn the flyer into their server with their itemized receipt and SOVA will receive credit for each sale in which a flyer is presented.

Please notify your Athletes as well as friends and family memebers about the fundraising night so we can make sure that this a success for SOVA Area 6.
