Special Olympics is more than “just sports”.  Special Olympics is: inclusion, unity, tolerance and acceptance. Through work in the fields of health, education, community building and sports, Special Olympics addresses inactivity, injustice, intolerance and social isolation of people with intellectual disabilities.  While there is never a cost for athletes to participate, the program does cost money to function.  Expenses totaling in excess of Fifty Thousand Dollars ($50,000.00) annually are paid for by donations from local businesses, organizations, service clubs, individuals and other fundraising efforts.  While addressing the group, Michael Marretti noted that this donation represents a significant contribution towards those necessary funds while Tracy Cade added that the Manchester-Richmond Moose Family Center #699 will also be hosting a fund-raising event with live bands and a dance this Saturday night, September 22, 2019 to raise even more money for Special Olympics Virginia Area 6.

Special Olympics Virginia (www.specialolympicsva.org), created by The Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. Foundation, is a year-round program of sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.  Area 6 Special Olympics serves almost 1,000 athletes in the Richmond metropolitan area and surrounding counties.  For further information about this event, or the local Area 6 Program, contact Michael J.
