Volunteer with Special Olympics! You’ll Never Be the Same Again!
About 20,000 volunteers help Special Olympics events and training happen each year in Virginia. Whether you only have a few hours or if you would like to play a key role in your community Special Olympics program, we need your help.
Because the array of programs, services and opportunities we offer are so vast, we’re sure you’ll find something to suit your interests and availability. Sports offered in each locale of Area 6 are listed by season under Local Programs on the Menu Above.
Volunteers of all ages are welcome, though volunteers under age 16 must be accompanied by an adult or sibling age 16 or over during volunteer activities. Family members are welcome and encouraged to volunteer in the same sport or activity.
Volunteers are needed as:
* Cheering – Volunteers are always welcome to come to any tournament or competition and cheer on the Athletes for a game, a day or whatever length of time wanted
* Head coaches and assistant coaches – per season
* Unified partners – volunteers who play alongside Special Olympics athletes on teams – per season
* Support personnel – volunteers who assist individual athletes during practices – per season
* Officials/Referees – single day
* Special event coordinator – by event or seasonal
